KAPITANSKA APARTMENTS
Fun with Colorful Form, Function and History

Reorganization of one large apartment into two, interior design, custom built-in furniture, styling, 160 sqm, Szczecin, Poland

Interior Reorganization for 2 from 1 and a Rich Spatial Experience

We transformed a large apartment in a monumental building of 1906 into two dwellings for the long term rental market. With a clever reorganization we managed to create two comfortable independent units. Robust built-in furniture and floor designs mark different spatial zones. The long lines of sight through the different rooms provide exciting views through the entire interior. The different character of the rooms makes the daily walk through the apartment an adventurous experience.

From Clutter to Clarity with Clever Bespoke Architectural Furniture

Playful geometric furniture maximizes space efficiency, making the compact areas feel spacious. We designed the custom furniture as architectural elements which create practical and spectacular spaces. The visual clutter of shafts, piping and staggered walls of the old building is hidden in these furniture elements. In this way interesting features like windows, views, old ornamentation or specific object become visual points of focus.

Combining Old Grandeur and Contemporary Interventions

The remaining original heavily damaged elements like the interior doors and windows in the front façade were carefully restored. An oak herringbone floor brings back the charm of the old interior. Contemporary grey tiles with intricate patterns are a modern twist to the long lost original mosaic floors. The larger apartment features new curved ceiling ornaments mirroring the originals. The bathrooms feature light colored tiles on walls and floors in a strict geometric pattern, which give the spaces a monolith character. Carefully placed vintage freestanding furniture and art give the apartments a relaxed funky feel.
