Feasibility Study for De Oosthoek Primary School
Bringing Clarity to the Early Project Stages
Concept study for a replacement primary school with an open, flexible learning environment, 2,310 SQM, Bleiswijk, The Netherlands
From a Vague Necessity to a Clear Strategic Vision
How do you translate a specific educational vision for a challenging site into a high-quality, viable school building concept? Together with the school director and governing board, Studio Larkemika investigated the full potential for a replacement school facility.
We analysed the brief for a flexible, classroom-free layout and the urban context. From this we developed five distinct massing options. A weighted evaluation of key performance factors including site integration, future expandability, outdoor spatial quality, solar orientation, maintenance, construction costs and natural surveillance, resulted in a well-founded preferred option.
Our robust concept study gave the client the confidence and foundation needed to enter the next project development phases and start involving local authorities and key stakeholders.
